Gyan will not be playing in Ghana’s last World Cup qualifier against Egypt

The Black Stars captain has been ruled out of the clash due to a thigh injury.

The Kayserispor striker traveled to join his international teammates on Monday, but is likely to pull out of the Egypt game due to injury.

Gyan was part of the Black Stars squad that began training on Tuesday in preparation for the game.

However, a tweet on the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) twitter handle indicates that he sustained a thigh injury at training on Wednesday, putting his participation in doubt.

The Ghana FA tweeted: “Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan pulled out of Black Stars training this evening in Cape Coast with what looked like a thigh injury. He will undergo tests in Accra tomorrow to determine the extent of injury.”

The Black Stars have failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup following a string of below-par performances during the qualification phase.

Egypt, though, have already booked a ticket to the Mundial after topping group E, rendering the game against the Black Stars a dead-rubber.

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has indicated that he will use the games as a means to assess some of the new players in his team.

The Black Stars will play the Pharaohs at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday.
