Ghana yet to see the best of Thomas Partey – Diego Simeone

The Atletico Madrid coach believes there is more to come from the Ghana midfielder.

The Ghana midfielder has spent the last five years at the Spanish club, but has failed to break into the team’s starting XI, despite being consistently named in the first team squad.

Partey, though, has impressed his manager so much with his early season form, having performed so well for both club and country.

The combative midfielder scored in Atleti’s 5-1 mauling of Las Palmas in their week three La Liga game, before following that up with four goals in Ghana’s double-header world cup qualifier against Congo Brazzaville.

His outputs have earned praise from his club manager, who believes there is still more to come from the former on-loam Almeria anchorman.

"It has taken him up to four years to get where he is now. He has worked hard and waited for his moment," Simeone remarked. "This pre-season we talked with him and told him that he was going to compete with everyone for the position. ""It is good competition for him with good players, and I believe the best will come."

Partey joined the Atletico Madrid youth setup in 2011, but was promoted to the senior team in 2013.

He was then farmed out on loan to Mallorca and Almeria to gain the necessary experience, before returning to the Rojiblancos in 2015.
