Emmanuel Adebayor reveals how his family stopped his Real Madrid move

The 33-year-old has now revealed that he would have had a longer stay at the club but for his family who prevented him.

The former Arsenal striker joined the La Liga giants on loan from Manchester City in January 2011, scoring five goals in 14 La Liga appearances under Jose Mourinho while helping the club lift the Copa del Rey.

"It's a tough one, it's a difficult one," Adebayor told the BBC regarding his relationship with his family.

"Today, I think I made the right decision to go public because what I have been through.

"People say yes, you have to keep it for yourself yes. I did everything to stay in Real Madrid but because of my late brother I couldn't stay there because he sent a letter, an official letter from Adebayor's family to the club that they shouldn't keep me.

"I am not saying that is why they didn't keep me but it can be part of it.

"My mum is saying I have never given her $200. People that I don't know, I have bought houses for them. I bought cars for them so my mum cannot say certain things, my family cannot say certain things," he added.
