Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been inspired to follow Cristiano Ronaldo's approach in order to become a star at the club.

The England international was only 11 when Ronaldo joined Real Madrid from United in 2009 for what was then a world-record fee of £80million, having claimed three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FA Cup, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in his six years at Old Trafford.

Rashford has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence this year, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances for the club and earning a place at Euro 2016 with England.

And the 18-year-old says Ronaldo's determination to become a top player is something he is keen to try to emulate.

"When Cristiano Ronaldo came to United, he was the one who everyone looked up to," he told Inside United, the club's official magazine. "The thing that impressed me the most was the fact he was only young when he came into the side and he wanted to be the best player in the side.

"He worked hard every single day, you saw him in the gym every single day and the results came on the pitch. He openly wanted to be the best player in the world.

"You have to have an approach like that – all the best players in the world do. It's not arrogance or anything like that, it's the mindset you need to achieve things."
