Nyantakyi endorses First Trust G6 tournament

With barely three days left to kick off, the Ghana FA boss has thrown his full weight behind the pre-season tournament

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has announced his endorsement for the First Trust G6 tournament which is 3 days to commencement.

The six-club invitational tournament organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and Super Sport on DSTV will be played at the Sekondi Stadium from January 7-10 to precede the start of the delayed new Ghana football season.

The draw which was done back on December 27, 2015 at the official launch pitched FA Cup winners, Medeama in Group A with Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars and in Group B are league champions, Ashantigold, Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea.

Ashgold and Medeama will also use the tournament to fine-tune their teams ahead of their respective participation in the CAF Champions' League and Confederations Cup.  This, Nyantakyi says makes the G6 competition a commendable initiative.

"I know it is a good tournament. It is linked to the league because the six clubs were chosen from their placement in the just ended league competition and these are clubs preparing for the forth coming season and so the tournament is a good platform to prepare the clubs for next season," the GFA boss said.

"I hope and believe Ashantigold and Medeama are part of it. These are clubs that will be taking part in the CAF inter club competitions so the G6 competition is a welcome initiative that will prepare them for their respective cup assignments," he said.

Nyantakyi also expressed his admiration for the Sekondi fans and their incredible show of passion when they hosted the FA Cup final in August 2015. The FA boss reckons his expectation to see the fans throng the stadium during the match days.

"We saw one game in Sekondi between Kotoko and Medeama in the FA Cup final and it was very well attended, it was very well organized too," he explained.

"The stadium has not seen active football games for some time so I'm happy that we have taken this games to Sekondi and Sekondi people are very passionate about soccer and these are about the best clubs in our league so I expect a high patronage from the fans," Nyantakyi continued.
