Waris struck for the first time in nine months on the road when he fired home with a clinical volley from a Cafu assist to score his first league goal since scoring against Caen in a 2-1 away win last season.
Metz took the lead after Simon Falette brought down a corner from former Lorient man Yann Jouffre, and - with his back to goal - took a touch before swivelling and stylishly firing a half-volley into the net.
Lorient replied quickly though through Majeed Waris in the 16 minute, whose shot from the edge of the box seemed to catch home goalkeeper Thomas Didillon off guard
Moukandjo set himself up as the star of the second half as he got his first on 54 minutes before adding the second from the penalty spot seven minutes later.
However, the game was turned around by the inspired substitution made by coach Philippe Hinschberger who brought on Vion for Opa N'Guette with fifteen minutes left to play.
The 22-year-old Frenchman wasted no time in scoring his first on 75 minutes and converted a second three minutes afterwards to rescue a point
