Thomas Partey rises to become Atletico Madrid’s top scorer this season

The Ghana midfielder has surprisingly scored more goals than any other Atletico Madrid player this season.

The Ghana international, who plays as a defensive midfielder, has emerged as Atletico Madrid’s unlikely hero to bail the club out with important goals.

Partey’s exploits have seen him rise to become the club’s top scorer this season with four goals, putting him ahead of star names such as Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres.

Partey's return of four goals is only matched by Angel Correa, who joins him as the club’s joint top scorers this season.

The last time a midfielder topped the scoring charts for Atletico Madrid at the stage of the season was nine years ago, with Simao managing four goals.

The 24-year-old has been in imperious form this season for both club and country, chipping in with important goals for either side.

Partey scored in Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Qarabag in midweek’s Champions League, before again scoring the winner in the club’s 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna over the weekend.

He has also been phenomenal for the Black Stars, scoring four goals over two legs against Congo Brazzaville during September’s World Cup qualifiers.
