Asante Kotoko present FA and President’s Cup trophies to MTN

Asante Kotoko presented the two trophies they won last season to its headline sponsors MTN on Monday.

The presentation was done during a short ceremony held at the MTN House at Ridge, Accra, with some Kotoko officials, players and technical members all in attendance.

Kotoko defeated bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in July to lift the 2017 President’s Cup, thanks to a 4-1 penalty shootout victory.

ThePorcupine Warriors completed a doubled swoop by adding a second trophy in the season following another 3-1 win over Hearts of Oak in the FA Cup final in October.

The hierarchy of Kotoko has thus deemed it fit to present the two trophies to the club’s headline sponsors MTN, as a sign of appreciation for the consistent support shown by the telecommunication giants.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Leader of Delegation for Kotoko, Thomas Boakye Agyemang thanked MTN for remaining committed since renewing their sponsorship deal with the club.

According to him, the club will do its best to represent Ghana well when they participate in next year’s CAF Confederations Cup.

“We did not do this alone, but along the way we always knew other people were always behind us. We had sponsors, but the biggest of them all was MTN,” the Kotoko Management member said.

“… We just want to say thank you MTN, we appreciate this marriage and with Asante Kotoko we know MTN found in us a bigger, better partner who they are going to stay with for a long time. We will always make sure we do them proud.”

Acting CEO of MTN, Modupe Kadri expressed delight with Kotoko’s achievements over the past season. He remarked that MTN is committed to continuing its sponsorship with both the FA Cup and Kotoko.

He added that the telecommunication giants will continue to support the club as they embark on a journey to lift the CAF Confederations Cup.

Chairman of the FA Cup Committee Kurt Okraku was also present at the event and took time to commend MTN for their nine-year association with the competition.

According to him, the partnership between MTN and the FA Cup is the “smartest ever”, adding that the Ghana Football Association has never had a better sponsor than the one it currently has with Team MTN.

He further stated that the GFA hopes to have many more fruitful years with the telecommunication giants, while also wishing Kotoko well for their upcoming Confederations Cup campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors failed to finish in the top four in last season’s Ghana Premier League, however, the club perfectly made up for it by winning both the FA and President’s Cup.

Other members of the Kotoko fraternity who were present at the presentation ceremony include assistant captain Eric Donkor and Team Manager Godwin Ablordey.
