Nico Rosberg knows he cannot get carried away with his winning run despite extending his streak at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

While Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton secured last year's Formula One world championship with three rounds to spare, Rosberg went on to win the remaining races to close out the season.

Rosberg continued his rich vein of form with an impressive victory in Melbourne on March 20, extending his winning run to four races, but the German knows he must stay grounded.

"I don't think about [the championship] in that sense, I'm happy to beat everybody and I enjoy the battle with Lewis and the Ferrari's and I'm looking forward to the next races for exactly that battle," he is quoted as saying by F1i.

"It's going to be good I'm sure and I'm going to try to come out on top."

The 30-year-old insisted he had put behind the drama of last season, in which he and Hamilton were involved in several on-track battles.

"I always go back and try to look into things to see if there is anything I can pick out, but this season was starting from scratch for everybody, so I don't think about the previous season at all," he added.

"It was the first race of the season, win it, great, there's a long way to go so I’m not going overly excited because there are 21 races and 20 to go, so early days."
