Ghana can still qualify for 2018 World Cup – Kwadwo Asamoah

The Juventus midfielder believes the Black Stars still have a chance to qualify for the tournament in Russia

The Black Stars have had a slow start to the qualification process, and currently sit third in group E – a staggering five points behind table-toppers Egypt.

After failing to win any of their first two group games against Uganda and Egypt, Ghana will now be focusing on a double-header against Congo in August when the qualification campaign resumes.

Kwadwo Asamoah played for the Black Stars in the last World Cup in Brazil, and the Juventus midfielder believes there is still a chance that the team picks up a ticket to the next tournament.

Asamoah told Soccer Laduma Radio: “In football you can’t say everything is over because there are lots of surprises in football.

“For the previous years playing the World Cup qualifiers Ghana has been so good, this time around things are a bit difficult.

“But still I know we are not going to give up, Ghana is a very good side always trying to go to the World Cup, is not easy though because Egypt is a very good side [too].

“They lead in the group now but we are going to do whatever it takes to come back.”

Asamoah has not played for the Black Stars since 2014, however, in a recent interview he disclosed that a return to the national team fold could happen soon.
