That Saturday win against South Africa made it all but done as a later point against Cape Verde secured Ghana’s place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Players from the senior national team of Ghana who played in that tournament still hold a special place in the hearts of many Ghanaians.

Renowned players like Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Richard Kingston and Mattew Amoah made Ghanaians happy with their battling performances at the country’s first ever World Cup.

In the second, there was a Prince who was Ghana’s very own ‘fresh boy’ in the name of Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The love grew deeper for the German-born Ghanaian midfielder.

Fast forward to 2017 and Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng are not in the senior national team of Ghana for various reason.

Essien, who was troubled by injuries lost his place in the Black Stars midfield. Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng were suspended from the national team after the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.

Muntari has apologized and is available for selection by coach Kwesi Appiah.

Prince Boateng hasn’t and is still out of the team but is the player among the three currently at top level with his performances at Spanish La Liga club Las Palmas.
