Ghana only celebrates dead heroes – Hebert Addo

The veteran coach is unhappy about the way legends and heroes of the country are treated.

Ghana has lost some of its biggest names in terms of coaching in the last two years, with the likes of C.K Gyamfi, E.K Afranie and quite recently Osam Duodu all passing on.

The running theme has been that all the aforementioned coaches were given little help while they were alive, and were left to their own fates by the nation they served.

Hebert Addo - who has also been out of coaching for sometime now due to illness – has waged in, lamenting the neglect of national heroes by the state.

According to him, the nation only celebrates a hero when he is already dead.

“I was so shocked when I saw the Graphic on Monday on EK Afranie’s burial splendid with big Kente and even the [GFA] president was even there," the veteran coach lamented.

"The likes of Osam Duodu all gone we could have done something better but they are all gone.

“For the past six months I have not had any visit from the Ghana FA but the likes of Coach Dauda Lutterodt and I was happy when I saw them.

"I am disappointed but they need to keep track on those who have served the nation so at least they could get free medical attention.”

Hebert Addo commands cult status in Ghana, having handled the Black Stars as well as some of the biggest clubs in the country.
