Sports Ministry hasn’t communicated to us to field local players

According to the GFA, the Sports Ministry hasn’t sent them any notice to use local players against Rwanda.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rubbished reports indicating that the Sports Ministry has ordered the GFA to give call-ups to only local players due insufficient funds to fly foreign-based players for the Black Stars final AFCON 2017 qualifier against Rwanda.

Ghana have already booked a place in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Gabo, hence their game against Rwanda will have no bearing on the qualification.

As a result of this, there have been calls from a section of the football loving fans to field a local based side to face the Amavubi's and there have been reports that the Sports Ministry has responded to the calls by instruction the GFA not to invite foreign-based players.

However, the Public Relations Director of the GFA, Sanni Daara has rubbished those reports.

“We haven’t received any information from the Ministry indicating that they are cash-strapped and as a result of that want us to use local players for Ghana’s clash against Rwanda,” he told Adom FM.

“Alex Asante, the director of international competitions, met the Deputy Minister because the Sports Minister is not in the country at the moment. Nothing like that came up.

“We believe that the coach has the final say with regards to player selection, and he hasn’t taken ay decision to field local players. Moreover, we can’t influence his decision, when it comes to selection,”

The Ghana Football Association has been at logger's head in recent times, disagreeing on several issues.

The two have no other option than to come to an agreement to ensure the Black Stars prepare for the final AFCON qualifying group game against Rwanda on 3rd September in Accra.
