All Stars draw 1-1 with Hearts of Oak in Wa

Both sides had their goal in the second half, Wa All Stars scored first through Kofi Yeboah while Samuel Yeboah restored parity for the Phobians.

Wa All Stars played out a 1-1 drawn game with Hearts of Oak on match day 25 of the 2016 Ghana Premier League on Wednesday at Wa Park.

Wa All Stars was the exciting side in the opening 15 minutes of the game - they kept the Phobians under intense pressure. The former Premier League champions were forced to defend deep due to the swift inter positional play of the home side.

Michael Yeboah issued the first warning to the Phobians as he exquisitely struck a half volley from 30 yards but it went wayward. Moment later Paul Asare also failed to struck home a loose ball on the edge of Hearts of Oak’s penalty box.

The Phobians then began to warm themselves into the game but they couldn’t go past All Stars defense led by captain Hafiz Adams.

With the attacking play of the home side, the Rainbow lads deployed counter-attacking strategy which worked for them as they started to create openings in Wa All Stars back line.

It was back and forth as the Phobians settled in the game completely but in the 36 minute Wa All Stars nearly score the first goal after Kweku Asuandzie dived to head wide Darko’s cross from the left.

Five minutes before the break, the Phobians had their best moments as Samuel Yeboah tormented the home side’s defense as he won series of free-kicks for the away side, Richard Akrofi also burst forward but his shot was feeble to beat Richard Ofori in post for the Wa giants.

All Stars responded swiftly as Samuel Akurugu made double saves to stop the league leaders from getting on the score sheet.

Coach Enos Adepa’s side began the second half as the aggressive side as they won the midfield battle which gave them the impetus to pelt the Phobians with a lot of attacks but the away side’s defense was on hand to prevent them from getting the opener.

The pressure paid off in the 59 minute as Kofi Yeboah scored the first goal in the game for the home side with a sublime finish.  Four minutes later Wa All Stars went on attack again as Samuel Akurugu palmed off a strike from Maxwell Baako and Vincent Atingah cleared the ball from the danger zone.

The Phobians abandoned their defensive strategy and started to probe for the equalizer but the home side were resolute at the back. The away side never gave up and Samuel Yeboah grabbed his fourth goal in the ongoing campaign as he pulled even for the Accra based side in the 71st minute.

It was then end to end action in the final minutes of the game - Wa All Stars were more dangerous whenever they have the ball but the Phobians also look solid at the back.

Wa All Stars failed to break down the resolute defense of the Phobians and with three minutes of time added on the game was brought to an end.
