Hearts of Oak end Tarkwa hoodoo with a 2-0 win over Medeama

Hearts of Oak win their second game of the Ghana Premier League season away at Medeama

Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s side needed second half goals from Cosmos Dauda and Eric Kumi to pick their first away win of the ongoing domestic top championship and their first ever win against Medeama at T&A Park in Tarkwa

It was a cagy game as Medeama went straight into action and attacked Hearts of Oak from all angles. The Tarkwa based side dominated the game as they seized the Phobians midfield with Malik Akowuah, Akwasi Donsu and Eric Kwakwa being the key actors.

Medeama’s penalty call in the 5th minute was ignored by the referee Prince Amoah but they never got despaired as they mounted an intense pressure on the Phobians.

In the 17th and 18th minute, Bernard Ofori and Samuel failed to put the Mauve and Yellows infront. However, on the other hand Samuel Yeboah for the Phobians tried his luck from 25 yards but Muntari Tagoe saved his shot with ease.

Hearts of Oak were forced to make their first substitution on the 25th minute mark after Cosmos Dauda came on for Richard Yamoah who had picked a chin injury.

Chances were far and few but Medeama for the first half of the game were the better side as the Phobians had little to do.

Hearts of Oak in the second half started the game very strongly but Medeama looked resolute in the midfield and created decent chances in the 55th and 58th minute but their attacking trident led by Bernard Ofori failed to put the ball past Hearts of Oak goalie Samuel Akurugu.

The Phobians started to gather momentum and in the 73rd minute substitute Cosmos Dauda broke Medeama’s hearts with a fine finish after he nicked the ball past Paul Aidoo before beating Muntari Tagoe.

The home side upped their game after the goal and they besieged the goal area of the Phobians with the likes of Kwame Boahen and Akwasi Donsu trying their luck from 30 yards. The Phobains seems much not bothered with the home side’s pressure.

Eric Kumi late in the game put the game beyond the reach of the home side after he neatly connected Kennedy Appiah’s cross as the game ended 2-0 advantage Hearts of Oak. Kumi was sent off for picking his second yellow card after he took off his shirt in his celebration of the goal.

Hearts of Oak will play as guests to Dwarfs in their next league game while Medeama face Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.
