Kotoko rated 35th in Africa club rankings

The Porcupine Warriors was rated number one in Ghana, but 35th in Africa in the latest club rankings

Five Ghanaian clubs namely, Kotoko, AshGold, Berekum Chelsea, Aduana Stars and Hearts of Oak appeared in the first 100 of the annual Africa club rankings.

Asante Kotoko who have amassed 1432 points dropped from 29th position to 35th in a space of one year.

The closest Ghanaian club to the Porcupine Warriors is their regional rivals, Ashanti Gold who are lying 47th position. They slipped heavily from 23rd position last year to their current place.

While Berekum Chelsea the third best-rated club from Ghana in the Africa Club rankings have dropped from 58th place to 71st position.

Hearts of Oak, who came 5th in Ghana experienced the worst drop among the 5 Ghanaian clubs that made it into the top 100 of the Africa ranking, slipping from 23rd position to 98th

However, Aduana Stars, the 4th best-rated club in Ghana moved up from 93rd position to 84th place in the ranking.

This shows that only one Ghanaian club appreciated amongst the 5 that made it into the first 100 on the African continent, with the rest depreciating in terms of points gained during the one-year period.

Meanwhile, South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns topped the list in Africa, with Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia coming second and Esperance finished 3rd. TP Mazembe and Vita Club both from Congo DR came 4th and 5th.
