Soulama Abdlouye's howler gifts Kotoko three points against Hearts in Accra

Asante Kotoko continued their good run of results against Hearts of Oak in recent seasons as Michael Osei's men hand Kenichi Yatsuhashi a 1-0 defeat in the 'Super Clash'

The Phobians are without a win against Kotoko in six seasons. The results also means that, Hearts of Oak have gone three games at home without a win and their second home defeat of the ongoing campaign.

A rare error on the part of Soulama Abdoulaye cost the Phobians on the day after he failed to handle Richard Akrofi’s harmless back pass.

A game that saw a lot of media hype lived to the billing as both sides went straight into action firing from all angles but it was Kotoko who were destined to score as Dauda Mohammed kept Hearts of Oak defence busy.

The Phobians also initiated an attack of their own as Isaac Mensah lifted the ball onto the path of onrushing Samuel Yeboah but he shot wide.

In the 10 minute the home side were forced to make their first change as Kennedy Appiah came on for injured Owusu Bempah.

Yeboah rattled the cross bar after he connected Fatau Mohammed’s free-kick, at this moment the Phobians took total control of the game as they pushed Kotoko back.

In 15 minute Cosmos Dauda brought out the best from Ernest Sowah, Kotoko’s goalie parried his shot away before Ahmed Adams cleared the ball to touch. Kotoko also had a chance but Dauda Mohammed’s shot was blocked by Robin Gnagne.

The Phobians had series of free-kicks around Kotoko goal area but they failed to score. In the 29 minute Tuffuor Frimpong was sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Despite the Porcupine Warriors numerical disadvantage, they matched the Phobians boot for boot and on the stroke of half time, the home side conceded an own goal after Soulama Abodulaye failed to control Richard Akrofi back pass as the ball rolled to the yawning net.

Cosmos Dauda from the recess nearly drew level for the Phobians but he shot the ball with his weaker foot which went wide.

Hearts of Oak piled more pressure on Kotoko but the away side’s defenders were up to the task as they cleared all the dangerous balls from their half.

The pendulum swung into Kotoko favour which they dictated the pace of the game. In the 63 minute Soulama Abdoulye was shown a straight red card after he prevented Obed Owusu a goal scoring opportunity.

Hearts of Oak’s glaring chances in the game fell to Cosmos Dauda but he wasn’t up to the task as he failed to get the equalizer for the Phobians.

Dauda Mohammed on the hand was thread through by Stephen Nyarko but substitute goalie Samuel Akurugu dived at full length to save his shot.
