Christian Atsu was the hero for Newcastle United in the English Championship when Rafael Benitez’s team travelled to play Rotherham United.

Atsu who started the game for Newcastle United scored the only goal in the fixture to hand Newcastle all three points. The Ghanaian was replaced by Matt Ritchie after 67 minutes of play.

Ghanaian duo Jordan Ayew and Albert Adomah played the full game for their Aston Villa team against Preston North End. Villa lost the away game by two goals to nil with Ben Pearson and Jordan Hugill scoring the goals for Preston North End.

In the Italian Serie A, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu was in action for his Udinese team who lost at home to Lazio by three goals to nil. The Ghanaian was substituted in the 78th minute with Jakub Jankto replacing him.

Kwadwo Asamoah is out injured and missed Italian Serie A champions Juventus’ 3-0 win away from home against Empoli. Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain [brace] scored the goals for Juventus.

Godfred Donsah and Isaac Cofie were unused substitutes in the Italian Serie A when Bologna entertained Genoa on Sunday. Genoa secured all three points away from home with a 1-0 win against Donsah’s Bologna.

Ghanaian national Claud Adjapong was introduced in the 78 minute for his Sassuolo team against AC Milan in the Italian Serie A. Milan who were playing at home edged Sassuolo by goal in a seven-goal thriller as the game ended 4-3.

Afriyie Acquah played the full game for Torino who won their home game against Fiorentina by two goals to one.

In the Spanish La Liga, Kevin-Prince Boateng returned from suspension for his Las Palmas side who travelled to play Osasuna. The Ghanaian played the full game for Las Palmas who shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw.

Thomas Partey was an unused substitute for Atletico Madrid in their 2-0 La Liga win against Valencia away from home.

In the German Bundesliga, Abdul Baba Rahman and his Schalke 04 team recorded their first victory of the season having gone five games without a single point.

Schalke won their home game against Borussia Moenchengladbach by four goals to nil. The Ghanaian defender was introduced into the win for his Schalke team after 86 minutes of play replacing goal scorer Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Abdul Majeed Waris was a 72nd minute substitute for FC Lorient in their French Ligue 1 game against Nice.

The Ghanaian and his team lost by two goals to one in their away game.

In Belgium, Frank Acheampong and his Anderlecht team won by a goal to nil against Standard Liege. The Ghanaian played the full game in the Belgium Pro League.

 

In the Major League Soccer, Columbus Crew’s playoff hopes are on life support, but Harrison Afful is doing his best to keep the dream alive.
