Accra Hearts of Oak pip New Edubiase in league opener in Accra

Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their first win of the season after beating New Edubiase by a goal to nil in week one of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Accra Sports,thanks to Samuel Yeboah's second half strike.

The opening minutes of the game was dominated by the Phobians as they besieged the goal area of New Edubiase with Samudeen Ibrahim and Mustapha Essuman being the most active Hearts of Oak players on the field.

In the 10 minute, Selasi Sdjei direct shot went straight of the body of Malik Tahiru, the away side kept on soaking the pressure from the home side who look jittery in front of goal.

Edubiase in the 17th minute had their moment in the game as James Boadu palmed off Soulama Abdoulaye and the ‘Yenko Nkoa’ lads started warming themselves slowly into the game as Godfred Asiamah was a torn in the flesh of the Accra giants defense.

Hearts of Oak’s midfield looked solid as compare to Edubiase with the partnership of Sabbah Laryea and Mustapha Essuman curtailed the movement of Christopher Agbeshie Zeberu Fuseini. Edubaise never got frightened with the huge presence of the Hearts of Oak fans who came in their numbers.

Eric Kumi had the first opening chance in the game in the 23th  minute but he blasted his shot wide, three minutes later Malik Tahiru came close in stunning the Phobians but he failed to direct his free header at goal.

Both sides failed to nail each other with the first half ending goalless.

From recess, Hearts of Oak threw a lot of men upfront, but the away side defended gallantly but the Phobianas piling the pressure.

Thomas Abbey in the 67 minute was denied by the crossbar, two minutes later Samudeen Ibrahim overhead kick in the Edubiase penalty box went wide.

However, the intense pressure from the home side paid off with 7 minutes to end the game after second half substitute Samuel Yeboah out muscled Zeberu Fuseini in a goal melee situation to slot home the opening goal and the match winner for the Phobians.
