Duncan plays blame game with Opoku Nti at Manhyia

A lot of secrets were disclosed when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II met the leadership of Kotoko on Monday.

Asante Kotoko until match day 7 were lying bottom of the league ladder and asked the head coach David Duncan to step aside for the assistant coach Michael Osei to take over.

The former head coach of Hearts of Oak was initially adamant to comply with management directive on the grounds that there is nowhere in his contract that states that he could be asked to step aside and even went to the training grounds of the team at Adako Jachie on Tuesday, but management who didn’t want to create a scene shifted that morning’s training to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Otumfuo, who was terrified by the instability in Kotoko per the position of the club and change of technical direction, visited the team last week Tuesday to urge them to beat Liberty Professionals to lift themselves from the bottom.

Although the win came against Liberty Professionals, the Asantehene deems it necessary to iron all the differences within his team and as a result invited the various factions in club.

The board who has not been in good terms with the management was there, management team headed by Opoku Nti was there and the technical team headed by David Duncan.

A source at the meeting told Pulse Sports that the action centered on management and David Duncan. The aggrieved David Duncan said the recruitment team set-up during the pre-season was a non-functional one , since management did most of the recruitment, without his consent: He stated that it was not in his plans to sign additional goalkeeper, but management imposed Ernest Sowah on him.

According to Duncan Opoku Nti instructed him not to field Ohene Brenya, the general skipper of Kotoko in games an issue that could create much confusion because the player is a prospective heir to the Asante throne.

Many other issues, such as management giving each member of the playing body and the technical team GHC 5 to buy breakfast prior to their FA Cup game against AK Shion last three weeks also came up.

On the other hand management responded that Duncan was the main man during the recruitment and he even signed a low quality player in Evans Quao from Medeama to satisfy his interest.

The board also had its own share because Otumfuo wasn’t happy with the way it neglected its duties as the highest decision making body of the club.

Nana also told the boardd to resolve issues with David Duncan to bring sanity to the club.

The Asantehene will meet the playing body to hear their side of the story, before arriving at any decision.
