Bonino scored with just over two and a half minutes remaining to see the Penguins edge to their win at the Consol Energy Center on Monday.

Pittsburgh had taken a 2-0 lead at home before giving that up in the second period, but Bonino delivered in the key moment.

Matt Murray made 24 saves for the Penguins, while Martin Jones stopped 38 shots for the Sharks.

They take a 1-0 series advantage ahead of hosting game two on Wednesday.

The Penguins took control of the encounter with two goals in the space of just over a minute.

Justin Schultz had a shot on goal deflected into the path of Rust, who had given the initial pass, to make it 1-0.

Just 62 seconds later and the lead was doubled through Conor Sheary after an assist from Sidney Crosby.

The Sharks struck twice in the second period through Tomas Hertl – via a power-play – and Patrick Marleau.

But Bonino scored the match-winner with under three minutes remaining, taking a pass from Kris Letang before netting.
