Chris Gayle feels West Indies are fortunate to have an array of batsman with the ability to "destroy" bowling attacks as they eye a second World Twenty20 title.

Flamboyant showman Gayle blasted a sublime century to inspire the Windies to victory over England in their first game of the tournament in India.

The opening batsman did not bat in the Group 1 defeat of Sri Lanka on Sunday due to a hamstring twinge, but is expected to face South Africa on Friday.

Andre Fletcher made an unbeaten 84 in the win over defending champions Sri Lanka and Gayle believes that impressive knock demonstrated the strength in depth his side possess.

The Jamaican said: "We have a lot of back-up. I shouldn't be using this word back-up, we have a lot of guys who are match-winners themselves who actually can do the same thing and destroy different bowling attacks around the world."

Gayle believes there should be more to come from Fletcher as the Windies stand on the brink of the semi-finals.

"I've opened the batting with him on many occasions so I know what sort of a player he is, he is very dangerous and he's capable of getting big scores as well," he added.

"So hopefully he can build on this and carry on, not leave it for anybody and get more man-of-the-match awards."
