Belgian rider Antoine Demoitie is in intensive care after reportedly being hit by a motorcycle during Gent-Wevelgem on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Team Wanty-Groupe Gobert cyclist crashed near Sainte-Marie-Cappel in the French area of Flanders before apparently being struck by the motorcycle as he was getting up.

Demoitie was immediately rushed to the intensive care unit of a hospital in nearby Lille, where he is accompanied by his wife and family.

His team later released a statement on Twitter, it read: "Antoine Demoitie's medical condition is extremely serious. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of an university hospital."
