Denver defeated the Detroit Lions 24-12 on Sunday, with the Broncos maintaining their status as the NFL's best defence in terms of yards conceded, with the Colorado-based team having allowed just 259 yards per game this season.

With quarterback Peyton Manning having some joy in a pistol formation, the Broncos scored twice in the final quarter to clinch their 12-point victory - Denver's second in a row away from home and their third straight to begin the 2015 campaign.

Manning finished the game 31-of-42 for 324 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a 11-yard TD pass to Owen Daniels with less than three minutes to play that wrapped up the visitors' win.

Matthew Stafford was vulnerable to the Broncos' impressive defence, with Detroit's QB suffering four sacks and throwing two interceptions as he finished the game 31-of-45 for 282 yards.

Stafford fumbled and had a pass picked off in the last quarter.

The Lions slumped to a 0-3 win-loss record.

The Steelers overcame the St Louis Rams 12-6 but saw quarterback Ben Roethlisberger leave the field with a left knee injury in the third quarter, with reports claiming the 33-year-old might miss six weeks.

Meanwhile, Seattle's 26-0 victory over the Chicago Bears was marred by a hamstring injury to running back Marshawn Lynch, although Seahawks coach Pete Carroll claimed afterwards that it is "nothing to be alarmed by".

Tom Brady became only the fourth NFL quarterback to throw 400 touchdown passes in the New England Patriots' 51-17 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Dallas Cowboys 39-28 and the Indianapolis Colts pipped the Tennessee Titans 35-33.

The Houston Texans defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-9, the Buffalo Bills cruised past the Miami Dolphins 41-14, while the Arizona Cardinals crushed the San Francisco 49ers 47-7 and the Minnesota Vikings prevailed 31-14 against the San Diego Chargers.
