Mercedes have held a meeting with Lewis Hamilton after he claimed "someone doesn't want me to win this year" following his Sepang engine blowout, boss Toto Wolff revealed.

Hamilton saw his hopes of overtaking Nico Rosberg at the top of the Formula One drivers' championship go up in flames as his Mercedes ground to a halt with the Briton leading on lap 41 of the Malaysia Grand Prix.

Rosberg recovered from an early spin to finish third and now has a 23-point advantage over Hamilton.

After the race Hamilton reacted furiously to the incident in a season that has been defined by numerous mechanical failings for the three-time world champion.

Head of Mercedes-Benz motorsport Wolff told Sky Sports F1: "We have all been in there together, mechanics and engineers.

"This team has always been able to recover well, there is a great spirit in the team and we need to keep pushing and not let him and Nico down.

"You need to speak to him [Lewis] now. We have had a small meeting and it is clear you are seeking an explanation. There are no words and explanation. There are different failures all the time. It is a mechanic sport.

"It is clear that you are so frustrated with the situation, what else are you expected to say. There is no rational explanation so everything comes into your mind.

"The words he said for the team in the meeting were really awesome. I can understand the immediate frustration when it comes to your mind."
