Harvey struggles again as Mets lose, Bradley extends streak

Starting pitcher Matt Harvey's season went from bad to worse on Tuesday after the New York Mets lost 7-4 to the Washington Nationals in MLB.

Harvey has endured the worst start to a season in his young career and it continued in Washington, the talented 27-year-old giving up five earned runs off of eight hits in five innings as he was outperformed by Nats ace Stephen Strasburg for the second time this month.

While Harvey is now 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA on the season, Strasburg - 8-0 with a 2.79 ERA - was masterful once again, allowing just two runs in just over six innings, striking out 11 batters and walking two in the process.

Jackie Bradley Jr maintained his hot streak in the Boston Red Sox's 8-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Bradley extended his hit streak to 28 games in the victory, which is halfway to Joe DiMaggio's record of 56 set in 1941.

The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates both had big wins.

Jorge Soler's two-run homer helped the Cubs to a 12-3 victory against the St Louis Cardinals to snap a three-game skid, while the Pirates crushed the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-1.

The Cleveland Indians upstaged the Chicago White Sox 6-2, the New York Yankees blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0, World Series champions the Kansas City Royals overcame the Minnesota Twins 7-4 and the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Miami Marlins 4-3.

A 13th inning was needed as the Houston Astros prevailed 3-2 against the Baltimore Orioles, the San Francisco Giants accounted for the San Diego Padres 8-2, the Los Angeles Dodgers were too good for the Cincinnati Reds 8-2, the Oakland Athletics went down 6-5 to the Seattle Mariners, the Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-1, the Philadelphia Phillies lost 3-1 against the Detroit Tigers, while the Milwaukee Brewers trumped the Atlanta Braves 2-1.

POLANCO INSPIRES PIRATES

Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco went three for five with two runs scored, a home run and five RBIs in Tuesday's rout of the Diamondbacks. With the big night, Polanco is now batting .307 on the season and has arguably been the best of the team's three talented outfielders.

DIAZ PRODUCES A CATCH FOR THE HIGHLIGHT REEL

The Cardinals had a game to forget but Aledmys Diaz still provided a moment to remember. Tracking back to make an unreal sliding catch, the shortstop also set up a double-play at the top of the second inning.

TEHERAN DOES THE IMPOSSIBLE

Braves pitcher Julio Teheran, who struck out four batters in the second inning due to a wild pitch, did the mathematically impossible by recording seven strikeouts in two innings. The last player to do it was Rays pitcher Alex Cobb in 2013.

Meanwhile, with the save on Tuesday, Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez became the sixth player to reach 400 saves since the stat became official in 1969.

NATS LOOKING TO PUSH ON

After a scintillating start to the season, Washington is starting to give up some ground. But Tanner Roark (3-3, 2.89 ERA) will try to outduel Steven Matz (6-1, 2.81 ERA) to help the Nats maintain momentum in the series against the Mets on Wednesday. The Cubs, meanwhile, will be led by reigning National League (NL) Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta (8-0, 1.29 ERA) at the Cardinals.
