In-form Ko heads competitive ANA Inspiration field

World number one Lydia Ko will look to claim back-to-back LPGA Tour majors at the ANA Inspiration in California.

Lydia Ko heads into the ANA Inspiration as hot favourite after one victory and three other top-10 finishes in five LPGA Tour starts in 2016.

The world number one collected his first title of the year at the Kia Classic last week as she consistently shot in the 60s to card an unbeatable 19 under par.

That victory was Ko's 11th on tour and leaves her well positioned to claim a second major of her career in California – her previous best at the calendar's first major coming in 2013 when she finished tied for 25th.

"I can't believe it’s already been six months since our last major, and I know I’m obviously really looking forward to this week," Ko said.

"It just goes by so fast, and especially being the first major of the year you kind of want to put yourself in the right position going for the next few majors too.

"My goal is to have my personal best finish at ANA. That's a good start. I didn't strike the ball very well last year, so hopefully I'll be able to hit a few more fairways and give myself a good chance, and obviously it helps to have played well going into the first major of the year."

She will not have it all her own way, though, with eight former champions in the field, including 2015 winner Brittany Lincicome and seven-time major winner Park Inbee.

Lexi Thompson – winner two years ago – is on the hunt for the second major of her career, and the 21-year-old has already won on tour in 2016 but will be keen to bounce back after a disappointing performance at the Kia Classic – where she finished tied for 43rd.
