Ghana's pride in Leicester City's Premier League heroics

Jeffrey Schlupp and Daniel Amartey could be the next Ghanaians to win a league title in Europe after Kwadwo Asamoah won the Italian Serie A on Monday

Of course it was sane at the point. Come on! Chelsea who were splendid in winning the Premier League last season were still participating with the mastermind Jose Mourinho in charge. Manchester City had every right to be considered as favourites with the depth of their squad.

Manchester United thought things were finally getting in place under Louis van Gaal with Arsenal almost always being the lukewarm favourites too.

So for a club that had put on a last minute show to save their season in the last, Leicester City had no chance. Not a single chance!

Now 35 games into the English Premier League season, Leicester City need three points out of their last nine in the games against Manchester United, Everton and current champions Chelsea to win the league.

The draw for Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night against West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane means the London club are seven points behind league leaders Leicester City with three games to go in the English Premier League.

Ghanaian player Jeffrey Schlupp wouldn’t have thought about a Premier League title when he made entry to England’s top flight from the Championship with his Leicester City team.

At most, he would have wanted to better his game, get a good transfer move to a club who have probable probability of winning a league title.

Out of Leicester City’s 35 Premier League games this season, Jeffrey Schlupp has played 21 despite being pushed out of the team due to an injury in the later part of last year. The Ghanaian has scored a goal in his 21 fixtures played in the Premier League.

Schlupp was an integral part of Leicester City’s fight in their first season and has equally done his part for Claudio Ranieri’s team this season.

A quick example is his inclusion into the team due to the absence of Jamie Vardy, the player whose sensational goal scoring form propelled Leicester City to the heights that they could believe winning the league was a realistic possibility.

The Black Stars player did his part to make sure Leicester City grabbed all three points convincingly against his international teammate Andre Ayew’s Swansea City. The win was the best Leicester could do in the circumstance and only hope.

Their hope however proved positive as Tottenham Hotspur blew their slight chance of chasing Jeffrey Schlupp’s team to the end.

Daniel Amartey is another Ghanaian name of the cards of Leicester City.

His participation since transferring from FC Copenhagen has probably been a graceful tour on the grounds of Premier League clubs with no real game time but the fixture against Norwich City.

Amartey will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season irrespective of how Leicester City title winning ends [like they are going to blow … mcheew].

With fixtures piling up due to their European participation, the Ghanaian versatile player could have more games than the cameo tours on the pitch he has had to cope with.

Monday was a good season for three Ghanaian players abroad.

Kwadwo Asamoah won his fourth Italian Serie A title without kicking a ball on the day. Napoli’s defeat against Roma meant Juventus had defended their title in some spectacular style.

Jeffrey Schlupp and Daniel Amartey saw a real chance come to life later on in the day, just needing a win in three to be crowned Premier League champions.

From Gary Lineker’s promise to present the first Match of the Day for next season in his undies to Claudio Ranieri’s tactical genius and pressure vibes, Leicester City have pulled one off. A big one that it.
