Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is in police custody after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

The 28-year-old was on probation for a hit-and-run car crash last year in which he hit a pregnant woman's vehicle and then fled from the scene on foot.

One of the stipulations of Jones' probation was to stay out of legal trouble, but that all came to a head when he was issued five tickets on March 24 for multiple traffic violations, including drag racing.

The arrest comes less than a month before Jones is scheduled to take on Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 197 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 23.

UFC issued a statement Tuesday saying it was aware Jones had turned himself in to police.

"UFC has been in touch with Jones' legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information," the statement concluded

Jail records show Jones was booked at 11:07am for a probation violation and is being held without bond.
