Be disciplined or go down with Aston Villa

Ghanaian player Jordan Ayew's act of indiscipline could hamper his chances of finding a new Premier League club when Aston Villa finally go down, Kwame Boakye writes

The times when Remi Garde had been rendered speechless on Ghanaian player Jordan Ayew had been times when he had to focus in boosting the morale of the other 10 players that had played in an Aston Villa game.

The media couldn’t stop the rants on the shining star who gave a glimpse of hope to Aston Villa’s faltering season. As a manager, Garde had to attribute a point gained or saved to the entire team when it was blatantly obvious Jordan was an inspiration.

Jordan was the man. His energy, character and tenacity in trying to be the key man for Remi Garde’s side received plaudits from all angles.

On Tuesday night Remi Garde was speechless on the Ghana international and not for the right reasons. The expression on the Frenchman’s face during his post game discussions was that of a man not only disappointed by a moment of madness from his key player but that of a man thinking of what the future holds.

The sending off for Jordan Ayew for his horrendously atrocious behavior on West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell means the Ghanaian will miss the next three Premier League fixtures for his side.

For Aston Villa, that could be considered as a potent catalyst that will quicken the confirmation of their participation in the English Championship next season.

And for Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew, that is a shortfall in his attempt to convince other Premier League clubs he deserves to stay in English top flight when Villa’s Championship fate is sealed.

Tagged as an undisciplined player by many, Jordan Ayew’s tussle with FC Lorient officials in his attempt to force a move to Aston Villa did not help his status as a player.

The former Olympique Marseille player went back to the drawing board and after a slow start in England, showed the talent that has always been proclaimed by his family.

Jordan Ayew was the best player Aston Villa had had in recent weeks and was evident the Ghanaian was never going down with Remi Garde’s side. But his indiscipline creates serious doubts over those assumptions.

Mario Balottelli, El Hadji Diouf, Joe Barton and Ravel Morrison are players who had the talent but never fulfilled an anticipated fulfilling football career due to indiscipline.

The talent is almost always not enough. Jordan should learn to be disciplined to have any chance of staying in the Premier League when Villa go down and some lessons from elder brother Andre Ayew of Swansea City could be a good start.

After all who would want to sign a player who will orchestrate his way to the bench for key games when a club needs him the most?
