The family of the late Formula One driver Jules Bianchi plan to take legal action against the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Marussia and the Formula One Group following the French driver's tragic death last year.

Bianchi died last July as a result of injuries sustained in a horrific crash with a mobile crane at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014.

The FIA's investigation into the accident concluded that a combination of wet track conditions, the speed of the Frenchman's Marussia car and the presence of a recovery vehicle on the Suzuka circuit combined to cause the tragedy.

Philippe Bianchi, the father of the former Marussia driver, vowed last December to fight on in his bid to see someone held to account for his son's death.

British firm Stewarts Law has this week sent pre-action letters of claim to Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Group, Marussia and the FIA on behalf of the Bianchi family, who feel the action of one or more of those parties may have contributed to the late driver's fatal accident.

The letter invited the parties to "accept that errors were made in planning, timing, organisation and conduct of the race which took place in dangerous conditions during the typhoon season in Japan."

In a statement, Philippe Bianchi said: "We seek justice for Jules, and want to establish the truth about the decisions that led to our son's crash at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014.

"As a family, we have so many unanswered questions and feel that Jules' accident and death could have been avoided if a series of mistakes had not been made."
