Home favourite Joost Luiten is just a shot behind leader Bernd Wiesberger after producing the round of the week so far at the KLM Open.

Luiten revealed he struggled with his swing in a first round of 69, but the four-time European Tour winner had no such trouble a day later on Friday as he put on a show in Spijk.

The 30-year-old, winner of this event in 2013, made seven birdies in a blemish-free seven-under second round of 64 to put himself in a promising position heading into the weekend.

Luiten rolled in a mammoth putt at the 16th for his sixth gain of the day and finished with another birdie after making three in the front nine.

Wiesberger recovered from a poor start to card a second successive 66, bogeying two of the first three holes but responding with three birdies in a row and picking up another four shots before saving par at 18 to stay 10 under.

Nino Bertasio teed off at the last in a share of the lead with Austrian Wiesberger, but the Italian finished with a bogey to go round in 67 and slip back into second along with Luiten and Mark Foster.

Englishman Foster is well poised courtesy of a 66 after beginning with a 67, while overnight leader Ben Evans is one of three players on eight under following a two-under 69.

Scott Hend, runner-up at the European Masters last weekend, took the clubhouse lead earlier in the day with a 68 and is among five players just three shots adrift of Wiesberger in a share of eighth.
