Mike Hesson has signed a new contract to stay on as New Zealand head coach until after the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Hesson took charge of the Black Caps in 2012 and has taken the Twenty20 side to the top of the world rankings, with the one-day international and Test teams second and fifth respectively.

New Zealand were runners-up to Australia in the World Cup last year and lost to England at the semi-final stage of the recent World Twenty20.

Hesson will stay on in the role for at least another three years, while batting coach Craig McMillan and manager Mike Sandle have also signed new deals along with strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson.

"Being around a group which works together and is striving to head in the same direction is extremely rewarding," Hesson said. "It's a privilege to be a part of the Black Caps culture and I feel lucky to be able to contribute to that for a little bit longer."

New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White stated: "This is very positive in terms of our succession planning; our preparation for the major events on the horizon and, not least, general team stability.   "It was really important for us to retain the intellectual property and institutional knowledge that these people have developed.

"Mike's the most successful coach in New Zealand cricket history and, in my opinion, the best selector we've ever had.

"To have him committed to the Black Caps until after the next World Cup is great news for all concerned."
