The NFL announced on Thursday that Philadelphia will host the 2017 NFL Draft.

For the last two years the draft has been held in Chicago after making the move from New York.

But the 82nd annual event will take place along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia on April 27-29, 2017.

This will not be the first time Philadelphia has hosted the prestigious event. In fact, the first draft was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia in 1936.

The city also staged the draft in 1949-50, 1953-54, 1956 (Rounds 1-3) and 1957-61.

"Philadelphia is a passionate football town and will serve as a tremendous backdrop for the draft and provide a great atmosphere for our fans and incoming players," commissioner Roger Goodell said.

"[Eagles owner] Jeffrey Lurie has been a strong advocate and supporter of the draft on behalf of the City of Philadelphia throughout the entire selection process. We look forward to working with the Philadelphia Eagles, the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau to create a week-long celebration of football for our fans."

"The NFL Draft will be awesome for our city and a real gift for the fans of Philadelphia," said Ron Jaworski, the former Eagles quarterback and co-chair of the Philadelphia NFL Draft Host Committee.

"The NFL will put on an incredible show, and I'm thrilled to work with my co-chair, Ira Lubert, and the entire business community to ensure the Draft is a huge success in Philadelphia."
