Maria Abakumova among Russian athletes to fail tests

Maria Abakumova must return the silver medal she won in Beijing eight years ago after testing positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone.

Abakumova, 30, has been ordered to return the medal she won in Beijing by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after the 2011 world champion tested positive for prohibited substance dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol).

Denis Alexeev is another Russian track and field athlete to have tested positive for the same substance, so the 4x400m relay team he was part of must relinquish the bronze medals they were presented with in the Chinese capital.

The 34-year-old Inga Abitova, sixth in the woman's 10,000m, has also has also been disqualified from the Beijing Games as a result of traces of dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) discovered in retesting.
