Steven Matz will join Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom as New York Mets pitchers to have their seasons end prematurely because of injury, the club announced on Tuesday.

Shut down since August 14 with a sore shoulder, Matz will not pitch the rest of the MLB regular season or postseason due to the injury.

He will, however, undergo a procedure next week to remove bone spurs in his left elbow, which have been hampering his effectiveness since June.

Matz will be ready for spring training in 2017, hoping to build on a successful campaign, which resulted in a 3.40 ERA.

The three starters, along with Yoenis Cespedes, Noah Syndergaard, Lucas Duda, David Wright, Asdrubal Cabrera and Neil Walker, have all missed time this season with respective injuries, yet New York remain in control of their destiny in the wildcard race.
