Pocock and McMahon in contention to face All Blacks

Injured duo David Pocock and Sean McMahon are both in contention to face New Zealand, Australia coach Michael Cheika says.

Australia coach Michael Cheika says he will have a better idea of whether flankers David Pocock and Sean McMahon can face New Zealand by the end of the week.

The Wallabies take on the world champion All Blacks on October 22 as they bid to stop New Zealand claiming a record 18th successive Test win.

Pocock has been sidelined with a broken hand, with McMahon fighting to regain fitness following an ankle injury.

And, asked about the duo's prospects of featuring at Eden Park - where Australia have not win since 1986 - Cheika said: "There's a chance that both of them could be back.

"Towards the end of this week we'll be clearer on [both]."

New Zealand equalled the record for successive Test wins in emphatic fashion at the weekend, hammering South Africa 57-15 to finish the Rugby Championship with maximum points.

"It's been a pretty good performance from them every week," Cheika added.

"We''ll start working out a few little bits and pieces but I think we're a little more confident than we are in [our] game now.

"When you're playing a team like them you've got to look at yourself and what you need to do to keep them straight."
