Super League title contenders Warrington Wolves have been dealt a major blow after Ben Currie was ruled out for up to nine months with a knee injury.

The influential forward suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament when scoring his side's final try in a 35-28 defeat against Wigan Warriors last Friday.

England international Currie will be out for between six to nine months, so he will also miss the upcoming Four Nations series.

"Our worst fears have come to fruition. He's torn his ACL off the bone," said Warrington head coach Tony Smith.

"He's on his way to London as we speak for repair. I believe that will involve a graft back onto the bone.

"The minimum recovery would be six months but I reckon he will be close to nine months. It's a big blow for the young man."

Warrington will also be without stand-off Kurt Gidley (hamstring) for their final game of the Super 8s on Friday, when they will attempt to secure a home semi-final and the League Leader's Shield by beating table-toppers Hull FC.
