Wigan's Josh Charnley revels in Grand Final win

Josh Charnley described ending his Wigan Warriors career by winning the Super League Grand Final as "a dream come true".

Josh Charnley described ending his Wigan Warriors career by winning the Super League Grand Final as "a dream come true", but admitted it will be difficult to leave his team-mates behind.

Charnley will switch codes with a move to Sale Sharks having been agreed earlier in the campaign and he signed off with the winning try as Wigan overcame Warrington Wolves 12-6 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

And such a sweet end to his Warriors career makes it even harder for Charnley to depart and take up a new challenge in rugby union.

"When I said I was leaving I told them that I wanted some silverware so to finish on this is a dream come true," said Charnley

"I just wanted to be a part of a winning team. The things we've gone through this year have been tough, but it's down to the boys' belief, it's one of the stronger spirited teams I've played in.

"It makes it harder to leave. I've got a few days with the lads and then I've gotta put my thinking boots on and try to learn a new code.

"We are that confident, you'll never write us off. It's one of those where we're never going to lose, we just keep going and going until the last minute.

"The best [win], because I'm leaving this club, I'm leaving this band of brothers behind."

Charnley added that if he were to return to league in the future, Wigan would always be his first choice.

He said: "I don't know yet [If I'll come back]. I've not seen how I fit in in Sale, I might not like but I might love it and never come back. I've just got to go and give it my all and if I return I'll return.

"I wouldn't go anywhere else [If i returned]. I've grown up at this club since I was 13 and it feels like home."
