Penrith Panthers centre Peta Hiku will miss the rest of the NRL season after tearing his ACL and MCL on Sunday.

Hiku, 23, suffered the injuries during the Panthers' 28-24 loss to the Gold Coast Titans in round 11.

Scans confirmed the tears and he is expected to undergo surgery in the next fortnight and miss at least six months.

Hiku had scored five tries in 11 appearances for Penrith in 2016.

In further bad news for the Panthers, forward James Fisher-Harris suffered a fractured thumb and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

The Panthers hold a 5-6 win-loss record this season to sit eighth in the standings.
