Pelicans shut down Anthony Davis for rest of season

All-Star forward Anthony Davis will miss the remainder of the NBA season due to knee and should injuries, the New Orleans Pelicans confirmed.

Davis has been hampered by a left knee injury as well as a torn labrum in his left shoulder, and the three-time All-Star will now undergo procedures to correct both issues.

"We're going to shut him down. He's done for the year,"??Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters on Sunday. "It's unfortunate, but he's got an issue with his shoulder that he's played with the whole season.

"It's amazing when people talk about him being soft or whatever; they don't understand that he's played through a situation with his shoulder the entire season."

The number one overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Davis averaged??24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and two blocks per game in 61 appearances this season.??

Despite his individual excellence, the team struggled and is currently 12th place in the Western Conference??at 26-43.
