Former England international Jason Robinson heaped praise on coach Eddie Jones for the swift manner in which he has banished the national team's painful Rugby World Cup memory.

England endured a nightmare World Cup under Stuart Lancaster's guidance last year, becoming the first host nation not to reach the knockout stages of the showpiece tournament.

It was seen as a new low in English rugby but Jones has rebuilt their fortunes after taking over in November, romping to a clean sweep of March's Six Nations for a first Grand Slam crown since 2003.

And as Jones and Co. prepare to face the Wallabies in a three-Test series Down Under next month, Robinson - a World Cup winner with England in 2003 - believes the fourth-ranked nation are on the right track with the 56-year-old Australian at the helm.

"Well I think he's [Eddie Jones] done a massive amount in a short space of time," Robinson told Omnisport at the publication of the HSBC Future of Rugby report.

"For England to bomb out of a world cup and turn it around in the next tournament and win a Grand Slam is a fantastic achievement. But, I think it is the honeymoon period, I think there's still a lot of work to be done, but what you see from the players is, they look happy, they're hungry they're playing some fantastic rugby and now they've got an opportunity to take it to the next level.

"The Six Nations is a very tough competition, but going down to Australia is going to take a lot more out of the boys. It will be great, it's all part of that development. I like what Eddie is saying and I like what he's doing with the players, but the real test is how they perform down there.

"At this moment in time things look really well. You've got guys like Anthony Watson, Maro Itoje, Dylan Hartley - the guys are really hungry, want to perform for England and look like they're really enjoying it. It's quite an exciting time for English rugby."
