Sale keeps White Sox ticking, Jays continue to frustrat

Chris Sale became the first pitcher to hit 12 wins this MLB season as the Chicago White Sox beat the Boston Red Sox.

The Chicago White Sox knocked off the Boston Red Sox 3-1 in style as Chris Sale was at his brilliant best again in MLB on Tuesday.

Sale mowed through the Red Sox in an exceptional performance, allowing just four hits against one of the MLB's most potent batting outfits, while his opposite number Clay Buchholz allowed two homers, including the first of Tim Anderson's career.

Elsewhere, the Toronto Blue Jays' season continued to prove a frustrating one as they went down at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2.

Peter O'Brien hit his fourth homer of the year in the seventh inning, while Kevin Pillar's two-run double after a remarkable catch deep in the field were the rare highlights for the Jays.

It rained runs in Minnesota, where the Twins trumped the Philadelphia Phillies 14-10, the San Diego Padres also notched double digits in their 10-7 win over the Baltimore Orioles and the San Francisco Giants demolished the Pittsburgh Pirates 15-4.

Charlie Blackmon homered in the first inning of the Colorado Rockies 8-4 win against the New York Yankees, the Atlanta Braves needed 10 innings to see off the Miami Marlins 3-2, the New York Mets triumphed over the Kansas City Royals 2-1 and the Detroit Tigers were 4-2 winners over the Seattle Mariners.

Corey Kluber fanned nine as he led a 6-0 shutout of the Tampa Bay Rays for the Cleveland Indians, the Cincinnati Reds took out the Texas Rangers 8-2 and the St Louis Cardinals shocked the Chicago Cubs 4-3.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2, whose city rivals the Dodgers enjoyed a 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Oakland Athletics 5-3.

SALE WINS AGAIN

The White Sox ace became the first MLB pitcher to get to 12 wins after shutting down the Red Sox. Against an offense that leads baseball in runs scored, Sale (12-2) allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine over seven innings in the victory.

PAGAN GETS REVENGE

A night after not being able to bring back an Erik Kratz home run, Angel Pagan got a little redemption Tuesday with a grand slam to help the Giants beat the Pirates.

RUNS, RUNS AND MORE RUNS

The Phillies-Twins shoot-out was the first time in the seven-year history of Minnesota's Target Field that both teams scored in double digits.

ROYALS CHASE SPLIT

The Mets pushed Syndergaard back a day after coming two outs shy of his first career shutout last Wednesday. Syndergaard (7-2, 1.91 ERA) has been exceptional this season. The Royals will try to earn the two-game split with Danny Duffy (2-1, 3.17) on the mound on Wednesday.
