Sharks regain NHL play-off series lead against Blues

A Joe Pavelski double helped the San Jose Sharks regain the NHL Western Conference finals series lead following a 6-3 win against the Blues in St Louis on Monday.

The Blues led twice - at the end of the first period and midway through the second - but four goals from the Sharks, including two from Pavelski, saw them move 3-2 ahead after game five of the best-of-seven series.

The Sharks took the lead at the Scottrade Center at three minutes, 51 seconds of the first period through Marc-Edouard Vlasic, but goals from Jaden Schwartz and Troy Brouwer saw the Blues move ahead.

Vlasic got his second point of the night after setting up Joel Ward to tie the game at 2-2, but the Blues went back ahead on home ice when Robby Fabbri found the net.

However, from that point on the game was dominated by the Sharks, scoring the next four goals on the way to completing the big win.

Pavelski scored on the power play with 87 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at 3-3, before putting the Sharks ahead 16 seconds into the third.

Chris Tierney scored in the final minute of the third period after Joe Thornton forced a turnover, before Ward scored his second to round out the win with 33 seconds to go.

The Sharks can wrap up the series and seal a spot in the Stanley Cup final with a win in game six at the SAP Center in San Jose on Wednesday.
