Stars deny Predators, Wild beat Blackhawks again in NHL

The Nashville Predators missed another chance to clinch a play-off berth after suffering a 5-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Ryan Ellis gave the Predators the lead six minutes, 12 seconds into the first period but Jamie Benn struck back for the Stars to tie the game.

Goals from Radek Faksa and Jason Spezza in a minute in the second period gave the Stars a commanding lead but Viktor Arvidsson pulled one back shortly afterwards.

However, Patrick Sharp restored the Stars' two-goal advantage with under two minutes left in regulation time before Benn scored his second to wrap up the win.

The victory keeps the Stars in first place in the Central Division, while the Predators must wait once again to book their spot in the post-season.

The Minnesota Wild completed a season sweep against the Chicago Blackhawks after securing a 4-1 win.

Goals from Jarret Stoll and Marian Hossa had the game locked at 1-1 heading into the final period but Jared Spurgeon, Erik Haula and Nino Niederreiter all scored to complete the five-game sweep for the Wild.

The Montreal Canadiens stopped the Detroit Red Wings from moving into a wildcard spot after their 4-3 triumph.

Canadiens goaltender Mike Condon made 39 saves and Max Pacioretty's double sealed the slender win.

The St. Louis Blues lost their shut-out streak but continued their winning ways following a 3-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Florida Panthers remain tied atop the Atlantic Division after going down 5-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who were led by Nazem Kadri's hat trick.

A treble from Logan Couture saw the San Jose Sharks past the Vancouver Canucks 4-1.

In other results, the New Jersey Devils defeated the Boston Bruins 2-1, the Pittsburgh Penguins came out on top 5-4 in a shoot-out win against the Buffalo Sabres, and the New York Islanders edged the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 after a shoot-out.
