Warrington Wolves closed in on the League Leader's Shield as they beat Widnes Vikings 30-12 and Wigan Warriors left it late to snatch an 18-12 Super League win at Hull FC on Friday.

Tony Smith's Warrington side lead Hull and Wigan by three points with just two games remaining in the Super 8s after easing past local rivals Widnes at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Chris Hill, Ashton Sims and Morgan Smith scored first-half tries and the returning Kurt Gidley scored 12 points with the boot as Warrington opened up a 20-0 lead at the break.

Joe Philbin and Matty Russell got in the act following the interval as Warrington ensured they will have home advantage at the semi-final stage.

Taulima Tautai scored a late try as Wigan came from 12-4 down at half-time to secure two points at Challenge Cup winners Hull.

Fetuli Talanoa and Mahe Fonu touched down for Hull in the opening 40, with Marc Sneyd landing a mammoth penalty after George Williams' stunning early solo try had put Wigan in front.

Sam Powell's converted try cut the gap to two points and Tautai barged his way over just three minutes from time to put Wigan back in front, with Matty Smith converting and adding a penalty to keep Hull waiting for a first home win over the Warriors since 2009.

Catalans Dragons were 14-10 winners over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, while Leeds Rhinos sealed their Super League status for next year by hammering Batley Bulldogs 32-0.
