Andy Murray told reporters, "I would love to win the French Open"

Andy Murray on Friday said winning the French Open was top of his wishlist for next year after his near-miss at the tournament in June.

The British world number two has two Wimbledon titles and a US Open crown to his name but he said he'd dearly love to triumph at Roland Garros.

Murray, who beat David Goffin 6-2, 6-2 to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals on Friday, went down to Novak Djokovic in this year's Paris final.

"I would love to win the French Open. If I could guarantee one thing next year, then it would be that event, one I have had many struggles at over the years," he said.

"But, you know, last couple of years I have come close and that's something that would be nice to win on that surface (clay)."

It is perhaps surprising that Murray didn't name reaching world number one, or finally winning the Australian Open after his five runner-up finishes in Melbourne.

Second on Murray's list for 2017 is a fit Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, after the two Grand Slam greats struggled with injuries this year.

"I think it would be great if Rafa and Roger could get through the year injury-free and be playing their best level again, because I think tennis is better when they're around," he said.

"They're two of the best players of all time, and that's been unfortunate this year. So hopefully they are both fit and healthy next year, and I think that's good for the game."
