Texans land Osweiler and Miller, Vernon cashes in

The Houston Texans made the most immediate impact adding two key members to their offense.

First, it??was quarterback Brock Osweiler, who??signed a four-year deal worth a reported $72million to start in Houston.

The Texans then added running back Lamar Miller to give Osweiler some protection and a solid running game. He signed a four-year deal reportedly worth??$26m.

Here are the other major transactions that occurred on Wednesday: AFC East:

After losing Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville??Jaguars, the New York Jets agreed to terms with running back??Matt Forte, formerly of the Chicago Bears.

The Dolphins??acquired cornerback Byron Maxwell, linebacker??Kiko Alonso, and the number 13 overall pick in the 2016 draft from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft.

They also exchanged fourth-round picks. Miami added safety??Isa Abdul-Quddus on??a three-year deal worth $12.75m and signed wide receiver??Rishard Matthews to a three-year contract.

AFC North:

Despite his troubled past and controversial post-season, the Cincinnati Bengals decided to re-sign cornerback Adam Jones to a three-year contract. They also re-signed safety??George Iloka to a five-year, $30m contract.

Heath Miller may have retired, but the Pittsburgh Steelers moved on by signing??tight end Ladarius Green, formerly of the San Diego Chargers, to a four-year, $20m contract.

AFC South:

Houston kept up the spending by adding??offensive guard/tackle??Jeff Allen, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, to a four-year, $28m contract to help protect Osweiler and Miller. The Texans had one of the worst offenses last season, but appear committed to turning that around.

Having already signed running back Ivory away from the Jets on a five-year $32.5m deal, the Jaguars continued spending on Wednesday by re-signing tight end Marcedes Lewis to a three-year contract and reeling in??free safety??Tashaun Gipson, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, to a five-year, $35.5m contract.??

AFC West:

It seems the Oakland Raiders are always spending and this off-season is no??different as they have signed??offensive guard/tackle Kelechi Osemele, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens, to a massive five-year, $58.5m contract. They also inked former Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Bruce Irvin to a four-year deal.

The Chiefs signed right tackle??Mitchell Schwartz, formerly of the Browns, to a five-year deal. They then??re-signed linebacker Derrick Johnson to a three-year, $21m contract and defensive tackle Jaye Howard to a two-year, $12m contract.

The Chargers got the guy seemingly every team sought when they agreed to terms with wide receiver Travis Benjamin, formerly of the Browns, on a four-year, $24m contract.??They also re-signed tight end Antonio Gates to a two-year, $12m contract with $6m guaranteed.

NFC East:

Like the Texans, the New York Giants made a huge splash in free agency on Wednesday. The Giants started by signing??cornerback Janoris Jenkins, formerly of the Los Angeles Rams, on a five-year, $62.5m contract.

They then signed??nose tackle Damon Harrison, formerly of the Jets, on a five-year, $46.25m contract with $24m. Then, they topped it off by adding defensive end??Olivier Vernon for $85m over five??years??with $52.5m in guarantees ??? the most ever for a defensive end.

The Eagles agreed to terms with quarterback Chase Daniel, formerly of the Chiefs, on a three-year, $21m contract with $12m guaranteed. He will compete with Sam Bradford for the starting QB job.??Philadelphia also signed right guard Brandon Brooks, formerly of the Texans, on a five-year, $40m contract.

The Dallas Cowboys re-signed linebacker Rolando McClain to a one-year, $5m contract.

NFC North:

The Detroit Lions agreed to terms with wide receiver Marvin Jones, formerly of the??Bengals, on a five-year, $40 million contract. The Lions acted quickly after Calvin Johnson officially retired from the NFL.

Jones and Golden Tate will be Detroit's top two receivers.

In an attempt to upgrade their defense, the Bears agreed to a four-year deal??with linebacker Danny Trevathan, formerly of the Denver Broncos. They also??re-signed cornerback Tracy Porter to a three-year, $16.5 million contract.

When Adrian Peterson is in your backfield you do everything you can to protect him. Which is why the Minnesota Vikings signed??guard Alex Boone, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, to a four-year, $26.8m contract. They also signed safety Michael Griffin.

NFC South:

Maybe the biggest fantasy impact came out of Tampa Bay, where the Buccaneers agreed to re-sign running back Doug Martin to a five-year, $35.75m contract, including $15m guaranteed. The Bucs also signed??guard??J.R. Sweezy, formerly of the Seahawks.

The New Orleans Saints got over the loss of tight end Ben Watson by signing Coby Fleener to a five-year $36m contract. They also re-signed kicker Kai Forbath.

In an effort to finally create a bit of a pass rush, the Atlanta Falcons signed??defensive end Derrick Shelby, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, to a four-year, $18m contract. The??Falcons also signed centre Alex Mack, formerly of the Browns, to a five-year, $47.5m deal and??re-signed defensive lineman Adrian Clayborn to a two-year, $9m contract.

NFC West:

The??Arizona Cardinals signed safety Tyvon Branch, formerly of the Chiefs, to a two-year, $10m contract with $5m guaranteed.

The Rams re-signed defensive end William Hayes to a three-year contract worth $21m. St. Los Angeles also re-signed??linebacker Mark Barron to a five-year, $45m contract.

Helping keep "No Fly Zone" intact,??the Seahawks re-signed cornerback Jeremy Lane to a four-year contract.
