WADA bans Beijing anti-doping laboratory

A Beijing national anti-doping laboratory has been suspended for a maximum of four months by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The laboratory is banned immediately from carrying out any WADA-related anti-doping activities, with samples required to be transported elsewhere.

The Beijing agency will have to take steps to satisfy a Disciplinary Committee, in which case the suspension may be reduced.

WADA pointed to the standards set by the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL) in regards to the ban.

"Whenever a laboratory does not meet ISL requirements, WADA may suspend the laboratory’s accreditation," part of a statement read.

The laboratory can appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration of Sport within three weeks.
