Waratahs beat Reds with Israel Folau double

Israel Folau's double helped the Waratahs to a narrow 15-13 win over Queensland Reds in Brisbane, keeping the hosts winless in Super Rugby this season.

The Reds dominated the early going at Suncorp Stadium, with the Waratahs scrum wilting under the pressure and conceding a penalty try after five infringements in the opening 13 minutes.

Jake McIntyre converted, but a missed penalty from the Reds fly-half swung momentum in Waratahs' favour and Folau got his first score in the 19th minute, beating his man after good set-up play from fellow Wallaby Nick Phipps and Jed Holloway.

Bernard Foley's kick hit the upright, but the Waratahs would go ahead on the stroke of half-time, Folau going over again after the half-time siren had gone to move within one try of Lote Tuqiri's Super Rugby NSW record of 29.

Reds hooker Andrew Ready was sin-binned early in the second half for kneeing Hugh Roach in the head, but the hosts went ahead despite their numerical disadvantage through two McIntyre penalties.

But Foley would have the last word, splitting the posts from 22 metres to earn NSW's second win of the season.
